Bronzer Q&A + Sale

As we head into the warmer months, you may be reaching for your bronzer a bit more or thinking about trying a new shade all together. To help, we have put together this little guide to Alima Pure Bronzers. They are 20% off this week only!

Should I apply Bronzer before Blush? Does it matter?

Bronzer is created to give you a more tanned effect and blush lifts the cheekbones with color. Generally, it’s best to apply Bronzer before Blush and blend them out to create the most natural finish possible.

Should I choose a shimmer or matte bronzer?

If you use a shimmer bronzer then use a Satin Matte Blush and vice versa. We love a hint of shimmer for added glamour but be sure to use it sparingly for a natural look. If you’re using your bronzer to also contour we suggest matte only.

Which brush is ideal for using bronzer?

We are in love with our #23 Kitten Brush for all things Bronzer. It’s a foolproof tool that is used for a light, sheer application. It also works well with virtually every face powder.

Where should I apply bronzer?

Everyone has their own technique, but we believe you should apply bronzer where the sun would hit. For example, across the cheekbones, down the bridge of the nose, and a bit on the forehead and chin. Since our Bronzer has natural ingredients you can even use it to contour the eyes if you’d like.

BRONZER-SWATCH

I wear a Cool 0 Foundation, am I too light for Bronzer?

Not at all! Adding warmth to any skin tone can look healthy and naturally gorgeous. We suggest Maracaibo Bronzer for you, which suits the lightest skin tones.

Is it safe to use Alima Pure Bronzer as a body bronzer?

It is most definitely safe to use as a body bronzer. In fact, some of us love mixing Seychelles Bronzer especially with our favorite lotion to create a glowing body bronzer. It adds a little bit of coverage and warmth to show off those legs after the long winter!

A Guide to Finishing Powders – Radiant vs. Satin Matte

Radiant Finishing Powder creates a natural luminosity with a soft pearl finish. Use it  to set your favorite foundation or alone for light coverage and warm glow. Its sister product, Satin Matte Finishing Powder, provides similar light coverage and sets foundation but creates a smooth, velvety matte finish.

RFP-and-SFP-graphic2

Wondering which shade of Radiant Finishing Powder to use if you have already found your match in Satin Matte Finishing Powder? We’ve created a quick and easy guide to help!

The rundown:

If your skin tone is very light to light/medium, and you currently wear Yuki or Keiko Satin Finishing Powder, then you should try Olympia Radiant Finishing Powder.

If your skin tone is light/medium to medium, and you’re currently wearing Hanne or Ami Satin Finishing Powder, try Augusta Radiant Finishing Powder.

Lastly, if your skin tone is medium/deep to deep and you’re currently wearing Takara or Sayomi Satin Finishing Powder, try out Sedona Radiant Finishing Powder.

If you’re still searching for your correct shade, or have any questions about any of our products, please don’t hesitate to contact our makeup artist at makeupartist@alimapure.com. We love hearing from you.

Link Love

Be Kind

We’re looking forward to Venice: The Golden Age of Art and Music at the Portland Art Museum. Maybe even having a Spritz afterwards to celebrate.

We’re loving everything about this video from local buddies Wild Ones. A day trip out to the ghost town of Shaniko, OR, where this haunting video was filmed, is definitely on the horizon.

We were so pleasantly surprised to discover this beautiful visit to Mikola and Randall’s airy little home on Apartment Therapy. On a related note, have you checked out Portland Supply Co? Mikola is one half of the team behind the blog.

Where do Portlanders go when the sun (finally) comes out? Angel’s Rest and Salt and Straw. Almond brittle with Salted Ganache? Oh my.

One of us is looking forward to curling up under the newly blooming Lilac and reading Bunny Bunny again.

Feeling crafty this weekend? This amazing DIY macrame wall hanging just jumped to the top of our list. This sleek plant stand is next in line after it.

We’re pretty thrilled to have Rhubarb Lip Tint inside of BIRCHBOX’s Limited Edition: Free for All box. This collection is jam-packed with amazing products that are free from parabens, phthalates, sulfates, petrochemicals, and GMOs.

On Sarah, we created and alluring smokey eyed look perfect for spring nights.  Here is how you can get the look.

1.  Start with a sheer layer of Satin Matte Foundation applied with our most loved #25 Foundation Brush.  Sarah’s shade is Beige 3 Satin Matte Foundation.

2. With our #17 Blush Brush apply a very soft application of our Satin Matte Blush in Melon to the apples of your cheeks and blend lightly to your temple.

3. Work a small amount of our Radiant Finishing Powder in Tender in the bristles of our favorite multi-tasker the #23 Kitten Brush, and apply with a light hand as you would a bronzer. With the #37 Eye Blending Brush you can target the brow bone and upper cheekbone for more of a highlighting effect.

4. Now for the eyes…start by wetting the #33 Angle Liner Brush and line your upper lash line with Eternal.  Applying our shadows wet will give you the maximum depth and color pay off.

5. After your liner has had a moment to dry, use the #39 Large Shadow Brush to blend Eternal up into your crease.  For bolder coverage this can also be applied wet.

6.  Line the bottom lash line with Eternal using our #33 Angle Liner Brush.

7.  With a #37 Eye Blending Brush pop Cosmic to the center of the lids to create a burst of color.  You can also use your finger to reapply for more intensity.

8.  We filled in Sarah’s brows with our Satin Matte Eyeshadow in Mahogany.  Our #33 Angle Liner   Brush is the perfect tool for the job.  Sweep the shade sparingly along your brows for extra definition and face framing.

9.  Next, coat your lashes with Natural Definition Mascara in Brown.

10. Our Lip Tint in Mango on the lips is the perfect finishing touch for this look.

This romantic look is lovely on all, and so simple once you follow the steps.  We hope you love the look!  Be inspired, be daring, be naturally gorgeous you.

Wellness Wednesday: Apple Ginger Tea

Portland is in full on Spring weather – sun followed quickly by pouring rain and even hail. My grandmother used to say “If you don’t like the weather wait a minute”. Exactly. And then wait again.
All these transitions can make us more susceptible to whatever happens to be going around, and when that happens my family always craves apple ginger ‘tea’. It’s super easy to make and gets us through flu season in good form. Bonus: the kitchen smells divine.

You’ll need a gallon of organic apple juice and a good sized knob of ginger (I use one about half the size of my hand). Scrub the ginger, slice it into chunks, and put it into a large non-reactive (stainless steel or enameled cast iron rather than aluminum) pot. Bring it to a low simmer and let it cook for an hour or so until it’s well flavored and somewhat reduced. Strain out the ginger (it can get too spicy if the ginger remains), pour the juice into glass jars, and refrigerate. The apple ginger concentrate will keep for 3 days or so in the refrigerator. Reheat cup by cup as needed, or mix with bubbly water for a refreshing cold drink. Cinnamon is also a lovely addition.

What do you crave when the weather turns?

Be well!

Kate

Get the Look: Gaia Spring Collection

Greek mythology tells us that out of Chaos Gaia was born.  As the creator of the universe she is mother earth, and everything that exists in the world originates from her.  Gaia represents strength, power, creation, and maternal nurturing.  Inspired by this, we created a collection of strong earth tones.  Our Gaia Collection features two Limited Edition Eyeshadows, and our all new Limited Edition Radiant Finishing Powder. The eyeshadow in Chaos is a fiery copper, Celestial eyeshadow is a deep blacked gold, and Radiant Finishing Powder in Sacred is a soft glowing peach.  Together these shades create a strong and enchanting look.  Follow these simple steps to achieve this powerful look:

slideshow_1

1. Start by applying a sheer layer of Satin Matte Foundation (Sara’s shade is Warm 1) using the #25 Foundation Brush.

2. With the #17 Blush Brush add just a touch of Satin Matte Blush in Carnation to the apples of the cheeks.

3. Lightly dust Radiant Finishing Powder in Sacred along the forehead, cheekbone and jawline; as you would with a bronzer or highlighter.  The #23 Kitten Brush is the perfect tool for the job, this way you will get a sheer glowing application.

4. With the #37 Eye Blending Brush sweep the Sacred Radiant Finishing Powder from the lash line to brow bone. This acts as a nice base and brow bone highlight.

5. Pick up a small amount of Chaos on the #39 Large Shadow Brush. Then work the shadow into the bristles, spritz with water, and pat the shadow onto your lid and into the crease.

6. Dampen your  #33 Angle Liner Brush with water and blend with Celestial to create a liquid liner.  Apply Celestial to the upper and lower lash line for intense definition.  Bring the line as close to your lashes as possible..  Extend the liner slightly past your natural lash line and wing it up for an eye widening effect.

7..  With the #36 Pointed Crease Brush blend (dry) Celestial along your crease, but concentrate the color along your outer crease.

8. Coat your lashes with several layers of Natural Definition Mascara in Black to add drama.

9. Finish the look with Rhubarb Lip Tint to moisturize and enhance your natural lip color.

orchidmodel

To start, Rachel is wearing our Satin Matte Foundation in Warm 1, applied with the #25 Foundation Brush  and #3 Concealer Brush.  For a soft finish, we applied a light layer of the Satin Matte Finishing Powder in Keiko.  We then applied Limited Edition Luminous Shimmer Blush in Lily onto the apples of her cheeks with the #17 Blush Brush.

  1. To begin the eye makeup, we applied Pearluster Eyeshadow in Silk with the #37 Eye Blending Brush as a highlighter on Rachel’s brow bone and cheek bone.
  2. We used our Limited Edition Eyeshadow in Pansy to line the upper lash line with with our #35 Eye Detail Brush.  A thin line adds just enough definition to the lash line without adding too much depth to the entire look.
  3. Using our #39 Large Shadow Brush we worked a small amount of Pearluster Eyeshadow in Orchid into the bristles of the brush, and patted it onto Rachel’s lid.  You can apply multiple layers to build coverage. Blend well from the lash line into the crease.
  4. For a bit drama we worked Orchid along the lower lash line using the  #33 Angle Liner Brush.
  5. With the #37 Eye Blending Brush we lightly swept  the Limited Edition Eyeshadow in Jasmine from the inner corner of the lid up along the  crease. For a little extra sparkle you could also use our Luminous Shimmer Eyeshadow in Leone.  We finished Rachel’s look with Natural Definition Mascara in Black and the our Lip Tint in Rhubarb.

Follow these simple steps for a fresh radiant look. Have fun, play, be your naturally gorgeous self!
