Get the Look: Horizon Full Color Story

Posted on May 22, 2014 by Alyson Hancock | 0 Comments

Feeling inspired by warm weather? Get an easy, natural look for summer with the Horizon Full Color Story Collection.  Available in both Light/Medium and Medium/Deep sets, these are the perfect essentials for a beautiful and simple routine.

Sara-Horizon

1.  Start with a sheer layer of Balancing Primer Powder in Medium (light-medium set) or Deep (medium-deep set) brushed over your T-zone, or any areas where you experience excess oil.  During the hot summer months this can make all the difference in keeping your makeup shine free and in place all day.  Our #7 Half Moon Brush works well with this product.

2. Follow with a light application of Satin Matte Foundation in your perfect shade.  Try using our Flocked Sponge for light, well blended coverage.

3.  Apply a touch of Carnation Satin Matte Blush (light-medium set) or Soft Plum (medium-deep set) to the apples of your cheeks and blend to your temples for a natural flush.

4. For a warm glow, use the #7 Half Moon Brush with Contour Powder in Sombra.  Apply in the shape of a ’3′ by brushing across your forehead at your hairline, along the hollow of your cheek, and down along your jawline.

5. Use our #33 Angle Liner Brush with a little more Sombra for a subtle definition along your lash line.

6.  Apply Bone Satin Matte Eyeshadow with your #39 Large Shadow brush from lash line to brow for an all over eye brightening base.

7. With the same brush apply Terracotta Pearluster Eyeshadow blending at the base of your lashes and upward into your crease.

8.  Sweep on a coat or two of Natural Definition Mascara in Brown. This richly pigmented formula will neatly define your lashes and complement the warm hues of this collection.

9.  Dab on Desert Poppy Lip Tint for a gorgeous nude lip.

The Horizon Full Color Story offers a neutral pallet that can be used to create endless looks.  Experiment with some of your favorite shades to warm up your summer look.

Yoga or Bust

Posted on May 14, 2014 by Kate OBrien | 0 Comments

We live in a peaceful neighborhood with lots of space and trees around. The streets don’t go through and there’s nothing much to see except houses, so there’s not much traffic. When the windows are open you can hear the occasional dog or lawn mower, sometimes distant traffic, but it’s quiet. That all changes in the early morning when the local golf club grooms its course. And the bit closest to our house, the putting green, is groomed by four leaf blowers (yes four!) every summer morning  from 5:45 – 6:00 am. Monday through Sunday. And it wakes me up every morning.

Yoga-Sara-Lewis

Staffer Sara Lewis getting her headstand on

For the first few days I lay in bed trying to imagine what kind of machine could possibly make so much noise. Then one morning I raced down the hill in my pajamas to find out. The guys were amazingly affable but unmovable. Their schedule was set in stone, apparently. I was not happy and not especially gracious, I’m embarrassed to say.

After a couple of weeks lying awake during the beautiful early summer mornings I realized that my favorite yoga studio offers classes weekday mornings at 6 am. If I were to drag myself off to those classes I would never even hear the dreaded leaf blowers. Well, except for Saturday and Sunday. But maybe I’d be calmer about it after all that yoga and being used to rising early.

So off I went. I set my alarm for 5:30, tumbled out of bed, pulled on my yoga clothes, brushed my teeth, splashed my face with water, and was settled on my mat by 5:50 am.

At first it was hard. This was no evening relaxation class. This was the type-A ‘we get up at 5:30 to do yoga’ slightly competitive class. In fact I might have stopped going except that I knew that if I were still in bed at 5:45 I’d be fuming at innocent (but obnoxious) leaf blowers. So I kept with it. And I got stronger. And also calmer. All the wonderful gifts of a good yoga class were changing my days in the best possible way.

One day recently, on my way home in the morning, I had a fleeting moment of gratitude for the leaf blowers. My whole being had changed as a result of their morning schedule. Still, I’d be happy if they could knock it off on Saturday and Sunday.

We’re so excited to share our Mother’s Day gift guide, featuring some of our favorite easy-to-use products to celebrate the best job in the world—motherhood.

unnamed

The Half Moon Brush is the perfect multitasker, ideal for the woman on the go. It works well with Satin Matte Foundation, Bronzer, and especially Contour Powder. And it fits perfectly in virtually any handbag and clutch to boot!

Lotus Lip Tint is a versatile spring lip shade that is buildable for more intensity yet has a feminine and sheer finish with one coat for a perfect pretty-in-pink pout. It is also jam-packed with nourishing ingredients to protect lips all spring and summer long.

Gaia is the creator who gave birth to the Universe (literally meaning “Earth”) making this collection the perfect gift for any fiery mom. Gaia Limited Edition Collection features two gorgeous Luminous Shimmer Eyeshadows and is paired with coppery Radiant Finishing Powder to create a naturally strong and bold look.

Bronzer is the perfect gift for this time of year, can suit nearly any complexion, and happens to be 20% off for a limited time. We suggest matte shades like Mauna Loa and Trindad if you’re not quite sure which shade would best suit your mother.

Last, but certainly not least, the Isolt Limited Edition Collection is a gorgeous gift to channel a mother’s inner goddess. Isolt represents love and passion and is a skilled healer thanks to her undying adoration and devotion. This set features two gorgeous Luminous Shimmer Eyeshadows and is paired with golden Radiant Finishing Powder to create a romantic and sweet look.

Bronzer Q&A + Sale

Posted on April 23, 2014 by Alyson | 1 Comment

As we head into the warmer months, you may be reaching for your bronzer a bit more or thinking about trying a new shade all together. To help, we have put together this little guide to Alima Pure Bronzers. They are 20% off this week only!

bronzers-blog

Should I apply Bronzer before Blush? Does it matter?

Bronzer is created to give you a more tanned effect and blush lifts the cheekbones with color. Generally, it’s best to apply Bronzer before Blush and blend them out to create the most natural finish possible.

Should I choose a shimmer or matte bronzer?

If you use a shimmer bronzer then use a Satin Matte Blush and vice versa. We love a hint of shimmer for added glamour but be sure to use it sparingly for a natural look. If you’re using your bronzer to also contour we suggest matte only.

Which brush is ideal for using bronzer?

We are in love with our #23 Kitten Brush for all things Bronzer. It’s a foolproof tool that is used for a light, sheer application. It also works well with virtually every face powder.

Where should I apply bronzer?

Everyone has their own technique, but we believe you should apply bronzer where the sun would hit. For example, across the cheekbones, down the bridge of the nose, and a bit on the forehead and chin. Since our Bronzer has natural ingredients you can even use it to contour the eyes if you’d like.

BRONZER-SWATCH

I wear a Cool 0 Foundation, am I too light for Bronzer?

Not at all! Adding warmth to any skin tone can look healthy and naturally gorgeous. We suggest Maracaibo Bronzer for you, which suits the lightest skin tones.

Is it safe to use Alima Pure Bronzer as a body bronzer?

It is most definitely safe to use as a body bronzer. In fact, some of us love mixing Seychelles Bronzer especially with our favorite lotion to create a glowing body bronzer. It adds a little bit of coverage and warmth to show off those legs after the long winter!
