Ingredient Spotlight: Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide

Posted on June 25, 2014 by Alyson | 1 Comment

Alima’s shimmering pinks, glittering violets, and luminous golden pigments are rich in color because we use high quality, cosmetic grade ingredients. Two ingredients that help our products attain their colors, that you may have seen, are titanium dioxide and zinc oxide.

Together these ingredients feel light and silky, and give our products that lovely ‘creamy’ texture one doesn’t normally associate with powdered cosmetics. In addition zinc oxide is anti-microbial and can have wound-healing properties.

Both pigments are inorganic compounds that come from different minerals (zinc oxide originally comes from the mineral zincite and titanium dioxide is sourced from different oxide minerals called ilmenite, rutile and anatase).

The best part is that titanium dioxide and zinc oxide naturally protect against both UVA and UVB rays AND are physical sunblocks, which means they deflect the sun’s rays (like a mirror) instead of penetrating the skin, like a chemical sunscreen would do.

New for Summer! Itahake Brush

Posted on June 18, 2014 by Alyson | 0 Comments

Introducing our brand new #8 Itahake Brush!  The Itahake Brush originated in Japan centuries ago, and was used by Geishas to apply their traditional makeup. This sweet little brush is sleek and compact making it perfect for travel, on-the-go touch ups, and every day use.

unnamed-1

The Itahake Brush is unique as it allows for a light, but precise application.  Most commonly used to contour and highlight the face, it will give you soft definition without harsh streaks. To contour with the Itahake, pick up a bit of Sombra Contour Powder with the bristles, tap off excess product, and apply to the hollow of your cheek and along the jawline.  Subtle application is key – use a light hand to create soft definition by holding the brush at the end of the handle with two fingers.

Though it’s flat shape and compact feather soft bristles make it a perfect contouring companion, it can truly be used with any of our face products. Try it out with any face powder such as Color Balancing Powder or Bronzer, and use for touch ups through out the day. You’re going to love this summer must-have!

Expanded Horizons

Posted on June 13, 2014 by Kate OBrien | 0 Comments

I have always been enchanted by horizons. As a tiny child my horizon included distant wheat fields under the Montana sky, broad views of the Sweet Grass Hills from the seat of my grandpa’s pickup, and endless expanses of drifting snow. Later it was the shimmering greens and grays of San Francisco Bay with the city shrouded in fog and the moody Pacific beyond. Wherever I was, perhaps because of those early years, the sense of expansiveness and possibility that comes from seeing distant horizons has nourished my sense of well being. I love New York, but I need wide open spaces. In those vast spaces I find myself and see my dreams almost as if they were palpable. I remember what I am about, what matters, where my next step should be.

ALIMAHORIZONS

One of the joys of summer is stepping out of our normal routines and focusing on our horizons as well as our paths. We recalibrate and rethink. We spend time with people we love. We remember our larger selves.

Our current Instagram contest is much more than a contest to me. It is a way for us to connect, and to share how we interpret growth this summer. As I go through each entry, I am enlightened by each and every one of you, and thank you for your beautiful contributions.

May your summer be filled with joy and the promise of expanded horizons.

Color Balancing Powder Q & A

Posted on June 11, 2014 by Kate OBrien | 0 Comments

Color Balancing Powder is our secret weapon against skin discolorations, and it is on sale  now! You can learn all about its almost magical powers in our latest Q & A.

Color Balancing Powder

What is Color Balancing Powder?
Color Balancing Powder  minimizes skin discolorations. It’s quite sheer, so it doesn’t actually appear green, pink, or yellow on the skin. Instead it subtly neutralizes those unwanted discolorations. That’s why we think it’s magical.

How do I use it to correct surface redness in my skin?
A light application of pale green Pistachio Color Balancing Powder will banish redness. Though it doesn’t look green on the skin, we recommend using it beneath your foundation. It works beautifully for dermatitis, rosacea, and even mild sunburn. Best of all, its super gentle.  And it’s Alima’s top seller.

My skin looks sallow and tired.  How can I counteract this?  Lavender Color Balancing Powder will instantly brighten your skin. This pale purple shade will enliven your complexion, and neutralize yellow dull tones in your skin. Again, we recommend a light application beneath your foundation.

I’m not looking to correct anything, I just want to brighten my complexion.  Is there a shade for me?
We suggest you check out Buttercup.  This pale yellow shade will soften slight redness, add warmth, and brighten up any complexion.

How and where do I apply Color Balancing Powder?
We recommend our #23 Kitten Brush for the perfect light application.  These powders can be applied to targeted areas, or your entire face depending on your individual skin needs.  Although, they are meant to be worn under your foundation, if no extra coverage is desired they can be used sparingly on their own.

Please don’t hesitate to contact makeupartist@alimapure.com for any further questions! We love hearing from you.

The website So Worth Loving‘s motto is, “Love you. Love people.” We can’t get enough of their sweet apparel and encouraging images and stories on their blog.

Our hometown of Portland, OR is constantly blowing us away with what it has to offer, and local blogger Honey Kennedy always keeps us up to date on PDX designers and events.

Moonpi designs jewelry inspired by the cosmos, desert, and elements. Every lovely piece is a reminder of something bigger. We especially have our eye on the Dream Gazer Labradorite.

Moving your body and dancing can release some unexpected inspiration. Especially to this playlist!.

Our Horizon Limited Edition Color Collection was created to evoke the summer spirit. Each product is flattering on all skin tones and warms up the face to give that summertime vibe.

Maybe it’s because we live in Rose City or maybe because of it’s intoxicating smell but we’re crazy about roses. In fact, we’re loving The Local Rose’s recipe for rose water and will be spritzing it all summer to enlighten the senses.

Tell us what is expanding your horizons this summer!
