1.  Apply your shade of Satin Matte Foundation (Emma is a Warm 1) with a #25 Brush to freshly moisturized skin. For this look, try for sheer coverage by blending your Satin Matte Foundation more than usual (buffing with a tissue can be really helpful here).

2. With your #3 Concealer Brush use the same Satin Matte Foundation  to cover any imperfections on the face and blend outward.

3. Next use a #23 Kitten Brush to lightly dust Olympia Radiant Finishing Powder over your face to set your foundation and to create subtle radiance.

4. Pop Melon Satin Matte Blush onto the apples of the cheeks, and then blend to the hairline with your #23 Kitten Brush (with the leftover Olympia Radiant Powder on the bristles). This creates a gentle terracotta glowing blush.

5.  For more even more radiance use the same #23 Kitten Brush and brush Dolce Highlighter over the tops of the cheekbones, down the bridge of the nose, and right onto the cupid’s bow.

6. Prep the eyes with a wash of Silk Pearluster Eyeshadow over the lids and up to the brow bone using a #39 Large Eyeshadow Brush.

7. Next, use a #36 Pointed Crease Brush to apply Toffee Pearluster Eyeshadow onto the lower lid and sweep upwards into the crease, blending outward to create warm drama.

8. With the #33 Angle Liner Brush line the upper and bottom lashes with Paparazzi Luminous Shimmer Eyeliner smudging as you go to create extra shadow and softness.

9. Finish the eyes by curling the lashes and applying two coats of Natural Definition Mascara in black to both the top and bottom lashes.

10. Finally, finish the look with two coats of Lotus Lip Tint - it’s the perfect raspberry pink shade to compliment this effortlessly glam look. Have fun!

The No-Makeup Makeup Look

Posted on March 24, 2014 by Alyson | 0 Comments

We’re loving the au naturale no-makeup makeup look that is fresh for spring, proving that less really is more sometimes. Follow these simple steps to achieve that barely-there makeup look that will enhance your skin tone and natural features. There’s no harm in saving the shimmer for summer!

NO-MAKEUP-LOOK

1. Moisturize your skin with your favorite moisturizer. We love to use coconut oil!

2. Apply a layer of your favorite shade of Satin Matte Foundation with a #25 Foundation Brush.

3. With a #23 Kitten Brush pop a Pink Satin Matte Blush into the apples of the cheeks and blend upward on the cheekbones to the hairline.

4. Prep the eyes with a wash of Champagne Pearluster Eyeshadow using a #39 Large Eyeshadow Brush. This particular shade brightens the eyes and conceals any discoloration on the lids. The perfect nude!

5. Tightline your lids with either Espresso or Black Satin Matte Eyeliner using a #33 Eyeliner/Brow Brush to enhance the eyes even more. Remember to make the line thin for a more natural look.

6. Apply a layer of Natural Definition Mascara in Brown to liven up your lashes.

7. Use Sweet Pea Lip Tint to give lips a healthy shine and hint of natural color.

Frequently Asked Foundation Questions

Posted on February 06, 2012 by terresa | 0 Comments

With our semi-annual Foundation Sale going on, it seems like a good time to answer some of the questions we hear most often here at Alima! Here are answers to some frequently asked foundation questions.

Q: Does your foundation contain sunscreen?
A: Two of the main ingredients in our foundation are physical sun blocks, but we have not had our foundation evaluated by the FDA to be able to claim a specific SPF. In our experience, the foundation provides sufficient sun protection for incidental sun exposure, but we recommend sunscreen for outdoor activities or prolonged exposure.

Q: Do your products contain nanoparticles or nanospheres?
A: They do not, and you have our word that they never will.

Q: Are your foundations organic?
A: “Organic” is shorthand for "organically grown.” Because minerals are mined and not grown, they cannot be classified as “organic” or “organically grown.” Minerals are, in fact, considered inorganic, since they do not contain organic matter. In spite of being “inorganic,” the ingredients are as pure and natural as ingredients can be.

Q: I have dry skin, can I still wear your foundation?
A: Absolutely! Many of our happiest clients have dry skin. You will just want to take care to moisturize your skin well before you apply your foundation. If you are switching from a liquid foundation, you may need to consider a more intense moisturizer to make up for the lack of liquid.

Q: I love the idea of mineral foundation, but I’m just not sure I can get used to using a powder foundation.
A: Most people find that it is easier than they expected to give up liquids, but if you struggle with it, remember that you can combine some of your foundation with a lightweight moisturizer and use that as a tinted moisturizer. Then for extra coverage, you can apply more foundation over the top.

Q: Will mineral foundation call attention to my pores or lines?
A: It shouldn’t! We don’t use the ingredient Bismuth Oxychloride, which can emphasize uneven texture. But if you do find that your imperfections seem more noticeable, you will want to try applying less foundation at a time. Applying in several sheer layers will give you a softer, more airbrushed look as well as make your foundation wear better!

Q: My foundation looks generally great, but I still have some redness around my nose.  Do I need your concealer?
A: Maybe, but first try these two possible solutions. If redness is generally a concern for you, you may benefit from a bit of our Color Balancing Powder in Pistachio under your foundation. This will tone down redness so that you are applying your foundation to a more neutral “canvas.” Or you can try using a concealer brush (like our #3) , dipped in the foundation and applied to the areas where you need a little more coverage. The foundation can give excellent coverage applied this way, and most people find it works like a charm!

If we haven’t answered your question here, remember that you can send any questions about product use to makeupartist@alimapure.com. The makeup artists get a little busy around big sales like the foundation sale, but they will get back to you just as quickly as they can!

Some days it's all about being lucky.

Posted on January 19, 2009 by kate | 6 Comments

Lucky clover Do you ever have one of those days when you just feel lucky?  Like maybe you should buy a lottery ticket lucky?  Lucky you!  It's great to feel lucky, even if you don't end up winning the lottery. We feel lucky when our skin is behaving nicely and our Satin Matte Foundation goes on like silk; when the eyeshadow colors we selected blend like a work of art.  We feel lucky when we are filling orders from our wonderful customers, and reading all the delightful emails you send us.

Of course, there are those days that don't feel so lucky.  Gravity seems to be working extra well, and you drop everything you touch.  There are days that the calendar tells us should be unlucky. We try to not be superstitious, but some days can just feel jinxed.

We aren't making any specific promises, but we think there might be something to help you alleviate the fear of those predicted "unlucky" days.  Carry your lucky coin, wear your lucky blouse, but also take a few moments to read our blog on days that seem as they might otherwise be troublesome. Perhaps you'll find some information that will make you feel more lucky! Lucky you!
