Alima Pure Staff Favorite: Keiko Satin Finishing Powder

Posted on June 19, 2012 by terresa | 0 Comments

Keiko Satin Finishing PowderDea is one of our amazing Customer Service experts.  She answers emails and phones, solving shipping and credit card issues with calmness and kindness.  In fact, we can't think of a time when we have ever seen Dea lose her temper!

Dea's current favorite product is Keiko Satin Finishing Powder. Keiko is the perfect complement to her Neutral 3 Satin Matte Foundation, and she loves the way it smooths over everything, giving her skin a more refined look, and keeps her matte all day long. But we should let Dea tell you!

"Keiko sets my makeup for the entire day, it's the last thing I apply after putting on my other makeup. All I need is a light application with the #23 Kitten Brush to give me a 'finished' look."

If you want to try a Satin Finishing Powder, but your skin isn't similar to Dea's in color, we can help.

  • Try Yuki if you wear Cool 0, Cool 1, Neutral 0, Neutral 1, Beige 0, Beige 1, Warm 0, Warm 1 or Golden 0.
  • Try Keiko if you wear Cool 2, Cool 3, Neutral 1, Neutral 2, Neutral 3, Beige 1, Beige 2, Beige 3, Warm 1, Warm 2, Golden 0, Golden 1, Olive 0 or Olive 1.
  • Try Hanae if you wear Cool 3, Cool 4, Neutral 3, Neutral 3.5, Neutral 4, Beige 3, Beige 4, Warm 3, Warm 4, Golden 2, Golden 3, Olive 1.5 or Olive 2.
  • Try Ami if you wear Cool 4, Cool 5, Neutral 4, Neutral 5, Beige 4, Beige 5, Warm 4, Warm 5, Golden 3, Golden 4, Golden 5, Olive 2 or Olive 3.
  • Try Sayomi if you wear Cool 5, Cool 6, Neutral 5, Neutral 6, Neutral 7, Beige 6, Beige 7, Warm 5, Warm 6, Golden 5, Golden 6, Olive 4 or Olive 5.
  • Try Takara if you wear Cool 7, Cool 8, Neutral 7, Neutral 8, Neutral 9, Beige 8, Beige 9, Warm 7, Warm 8, Warm 9, Golden 7, Golden 8, Golden 9, Olive 6 or Olive 7.

You may find your foundation shade listed under more than one Satin Finishing Powder shade.  If that is the case, you could wear either one, and it will be a matter of preference which you like best.  Try a sample size of each to see which seems to work best for you.

Alima Pure Staff Favorite: Garnet Luminous Shimmer Blush

Posted on May 15, 2012 by terresa | 4 Comments

Welcome to our new "Alima Pure Staff Favorite" series, where staffers pick their one, current favorite product.  It is your chance to see what everyone "behind the scenes" chooses to wear, when they have the full line available to them. We started out with Robin, whose current favorite product is our Luminous Shimmer Blush in Garnet.

Staff Favorite Robin 1

Robin is pregnant, and maybe partly because of that, or maybe because we haven't had much sun here in Portland up until the last couple of weeks, she loves the brightness of Garnet, and the way it wakes up her complexion.  She said, "I like Garnet because it's a bright, refreshing pop of color for paler skin, perfect for when you want a rosy cheek versus a bronzed look."  Because she is expecting, Robin especially appreciates that she doesn't need to worry about applying Garnet to her skin.  "It seems like pregnant women have to be careful about everything, but I know this doesn't have any dyes or harmful chemicals in it."

We have to admit, we were a little surprised that Robin chose Garnet. After all, it is a bright, vivid shade (one of our top recommendations for deep skin tones), and Robin has relatively fair skin.  But once she showed us how great it looks on her, we were sold!  Her application tip is to use a fluffy brush, like our #23 Kitten Brush. Several of us immediately added Garnet to our personal wish-lists.  To her credit, Robin was surprised at our surprise.  She told us, "You shouldn't be afraid of color--try something new!"  She's right of course, and embracing a bright shade that we might otherwise overlook is a great way to break free from a color rut!

Alima Pure Staff Favorites

Kara has worked for Alima Pure for three years and is a photography student at a local school. She has been doing the photography of our products, as well as employees for the blog. Of course, for this particular post, Sara had to step in to photograph Kara and she did an amazing job!

Kara has beautiful olive skin that tans if she even looks at the sun. At the point in the summer that we took this photo, Kara was wearing Satin Matte Foundation in Olive 1.5. On her cheeks, we added Satin Matte Blush in Bisque.

On Kara's eyes, we used Luminous Shimmer Eyeshadows in Venus from crease to brows and Truffle from lashes to crease. Tigereye went into the crease and concentrated at the outer corner of the eye. Paparazzi Luminous Shimmer Eyeliner was applied wet to the lash-line with our #33 Angle Liner Brush.

To finish, we applied our Holly Berry Organic Nourishing Lip Balm. We think Kara looks stunning!

Makeup Artist's Favorite - Gazelle

Posted on September 13, 2011 by terresa | 1 Comment

I recently used up an entire Alima Pure eyeshadow. If you own any of our shadows, you know that this is not all that easy to do! The shadows last a long time, to say the least. But Gazelle Luminous Shimmer Shadow has overtaken all other shadows as my "go-to."  When you wear an eyeshadow daily, it does eventually run out!

What is it about Gazelle that makes it so perfect? Well, for me at least, everything! The shade, a soft beige that is not too far from my natural skin tone (Beige 2). But what makes it really special is the shimmer. It's not sparkly like some of the other Luminous Shimmer Shadows, but it is not pearly like a Pearluster. It is just the right amount of shimmer to brighten up my eye area without looking inappropriate for my age.

If your skin is more of a neutral or cool, and maybe slightly deeper, Chai Luminous Shimmer Shadow may end up being the "go-to" shade for you.  I just used it on a Neutral 5 today, and the effect was similar to Gazelle on my skin, and it was beautiful!  If you have darker skin, Palomino Luminous Shimmer Shadow would fit the bill for you.

And here's a little good news, if you happen to be looking for an entire set that is perfect for every day, our Simply Perfect Collection is available on the website for a limited time only.  It contains my favorite Gazelle, but also Luminous Shimmer Eyeshadow in Tigereye and Satin Matte Blush in Pink.  It is a great set for daily wear or as a gift to introduce someone to the wonders of Alima Pure mineral cosmetics!

Alima Pure Staff Favorites

Tracey is the Alima Pure Lab Manager, so she knows our colors as well as anyone!  She likes to wear colors that enhance her features without looking like she's wearing much, so her favorites include mostly matte colors.

Tracey wears Satin Matte Foundation in Beige 3 and then we added a light dusting of Satin Finishing Powder in Keiko.  We brushed Satin Matte Blush in Honey Rose to the apples of her cheeks.

For eyes, we used Satin Matte Eyeshadow in Vanilla as a base, from lashes to brows.  Then we used Satin Matte Mohair on the lid.  The lone bit of shimmer, Pearluster Eyeshadow in Mocha, went into the crease. Before lining, we used the #33 brush with Satin Matte Eyeshadow in Raven to fill in Tracey's brows, then we wiped the brush off, dampened it and used it to line her upper lash line with Satin Matte Eyeliner in Espresso.

The finishing touch is our Organic Nourishing Lip Balm in Mango.  As you can see, these shades give Tracey a polished, professional look without looking overdone!

Kat is one of Alima Pure's newest employees and, with her gorgeous blue eyes, the makeup artist couldn't wait to get her hands on her! We used Kat's favorite shades to create this simple, polished look.

Fair even by Oregon standards, Kat wears Satin Matte Foundation in Cool 1. It isn't our lightest foundation, but it's close! We applied it with our #25 Foundatin brush. We added a little extra with the #31 Fine Liner/Concealer brush to cover any spots.

A bit of Apple Blossom Satin Matte Blush gives Kat's cheeks a nice, soft glow without overpowering her complexion.

On her eyes, we used Luminous Shimmer Shadow in Glow from the lashes to the brows. Next, Lilac Satin Matte Eyeshadow was blended into her lids. We lined with Luminous Shimmer Eyeliner in Black Cherry, using a damp brush.

To finish off the look, we slicked a bit of our Organic Nourishing Lip Balm in Fig on her lips.

Alima Pure Staff Favorites

Amira has worked at Alima Pure since she was in high school, when she came after class to make samples.  Now she's full-time and one of the people who you can ask just about any Alima question, and she'll know the answer!

In this photo Amira is wearing her foundation, Beige 3.  Her favorite blush is Satin Matte Blushes in Pink.

On her lids, we used her (current) favorite shadows, Luminous Shimmer Shadows in Mink as a base, from lashes to brows, Black Orchid on the lid and Ombra as a liner.  We added a touch of Raven to her brows.

Several years ago, we did a special gift of a limited edition lip color, Sweet Pea.  Amira loved it so much, she made a case for us to make the shade permanent when we launched our new Organic Nourshing Lip Balms.  So naturally, she's wearing Sweet Pea in the photo!
