Our first 3 for $30 eyeshadow sets were such a big hit that we decided to go a little bit wild with the newer ones. So when we first asked Urmila to model our Vivid! for Brown Eyes eyeshadow set, she was agreeable. Then we told her the colors in the set. "Aegean??? I don't think I can wear blue eyeshadow," she said. Of course we told her she definitely could, and we would prove it. The results are here for the world to see!
We started out with Urmila's Satin Matte Foundation, Beige 4, and applied it with our #25 Foundation Brush. With the #3 Concealer Brush, we also brushed a bit of foundation onto her eyelids to give a nice neutral base. Then we added a bit of Satin Matte Blush in Melon to the apples of her cheeks with our #21 Buff Brush.
Since Urmila was a little "blue-shy," we wanted to keep her look simple and office (if your office isn't a cosmetics company) appropriate. We brushed Leone Luminous Shimmer Eyeshadow over her entire eye area using the #37 Eye Blending Brush. Then with the number #36 Pointed Crease Brush, we added the slightest touch of Aegean Luminous Shimmer Eyeshadow to Urmila's crease and blended it well. Then we mixed some Aegean with water and applied it as a thick liner with the #33 Angle Liner Brush, winging the outer corners up and out. To add definition to Urmila's lash line, we used Black Satin Matte Eyeliner, just smudged into the roots of her lashes. To finish the look, we slicked on some Organic Nourishing Lipbalm in Holly Berry.
If you are a bit more "blue-venturous," try using Aegean on your entire lid, either wet (for the very bold) or dry (for the more subdued). But we rest our case...see Urmila, you CAN wear blue shadow!
Dea is one of our amazing Customer Service experts. She answers emails and phones, solving shipping and credit card issues with calmness and kindness. In fact, we can't think of a time when we have ever seen Dea lose her temper!
Dea's current favorite product is Keiko Satin Finishing Powder. Keiko is the perfect complement to her Neutral 3 Satin Matte Foundation, and she loves the way it smooths over everything, giving her skin a more refined look, and keeps her matte all day long. But we should let Dea tell you!
"Keiko sets my makeup for the entire day, it's the last thing I apply after putting on my other makeup. All I need is a light application with the #23 Kitten Brush to give me a 'finished' look."
If you want to try a Satin Finishing Powder, but your skin isn't similar to Dea's in color, we can help.

Have you noticed that it is now just a little easier to shop and select makeup colors on the Alima Pure website? We have been adding little features and hints to make it simpler to find what you're looking for, even if you aren't always exactly sure what you're looking for!
In our website make-over, we added a handy feature that allows you to sort all of our eye products and blush shades by color. Of course, we recognize that our idea of "pink" might not be exactly the same as your idea of "pink," but keep in mind that we have listed them by the shade we are most likely to call a particular color. While Eden Luminous Shimmer Eyeshadow could be called "green" or "gold," it definitely could not be called "yellow," so it will show up in a search for "green" colors.
A couple of months ago, we added our 3 for $30 Eyehadow collections, to make it easier to buy coordinating eyeshadows based on what you want to achieve. For our first two rounds, we have focused on shades for different eye colors, but in the future we will also have some focusing on "looks," like a smoky eye or a polished, professional trio. In addition to these sets, we do have posts on our blog that recommend shadow shades for different eye colors; brown, blue or green.
And if your needs are more basic, we have added two new kit options. First, of course, is the Foundation Selector tool that we launched this week to help you find your perfect match. By answering the Foundation Selector questions, you are eligible to purchase a kit of samples to lead you to your match. The next step is our new kit, The Basic Face, which includes our cult-favorite #25 Foundation Brush and introductory sizes of your foundation shade, a Satin Matte Blush, Luminous Shimmer Blush and Satin Finishing Powder, all selected to complement your foundation. This kit takes the guess-work out of what blushes and finishing powder will work with your foundation, and includes shades that are the most popular for their category.
But even with all of these aids, sometimes nothing is better than personalized service. Our makeup artists are still available to answer your color questions.
The final step of celebrating our website's makeover is to do the sort of giveaway that our Facebook fans requested. It's a shopping spree! Enter our giveaway below, and you could be the lucky winner of $100 to spend on at alimapure.com. Wondering what you'd spend it on? We asked a few staffers what they would recommend, and their helpful suggestions follow. They will give you an idea of the different approaches you could take!
Urmila went the route of getting a full face, and she was also closest to spending $100, with a total of $99.50! She would choose her foundation (Beige 4), a blush (her current favorite is Satin Matte Blush in Ginger), a #25 Foundation Brush, a Luminous Shimmer Eyeshadow like Leone to give her some sparkle for special occasions, and a #33 Angle Liner Brush to use for liner and brows.
Robin would invest a little more heavily in brushes, selecting both the #23 Kitten Brush and the #25 Foundation Brush. She would then get her Satin Matte Foundation (Olive 1) and then welcome summer with a Mauna Loa Bronzer, for a total of $98. But Robin would spend that last $2 and even a little extra, to get a couple of samples of Satin Matte and Luminous Shimmer Blushes.
Dea took a slightly different approach. She selected her Neutral 3.5 Satin Matte Foundation, Leigh Luminous Shimmer Blush, Satin Finishing Powder in Keiko, Pearluster Eyeshadow in Champagne, Satin Matte Eyeshadow in Cocoa and Organic Nourishing Lip Balm in Sweet Pea, giving her a complete face, but no brushes, for only $97!
Mary and Terresa both went over their limits, but planned carefully so that they would maximize their dollars. Mary selected the Irresistible Brush Set, which gets her four of our most popular brushes (#25, #17, #35 and #39) for only $55. Then she would get a new Bronzer in Mauna Loa and the Bold! For Green Eyes kit (part of the 3 for $30 promotion), giving her a grand total of only $105.
But just a reminder, you don't have to be female to win this contest. As some of us were putting together our $100 shopping lists, Brian chimed in. What would he do if he won a $100 Alima Pure shopping spree? "I'd give it to my mom!"
And if you aren't the lucky winner of the $100 shopping spree, don't despair. We're also giving away ten Limited Edition eyeshadows from our past collection "vault."

India was one of the very early Alima employees, from back when Alima was still in founder Kate O'Brien's house. She left us long ago to pursue her education, so we were thrilled when she agreed to come in and be one of our Naturally Gorgeous models! It was a great chance to catch up with this young woman who approaches life with great passion and enthusiasm.
India loves to spend time outdoors. She enjoys biking, hiking, dancing and rock climbing...in fact she seldom sits still, as you may be able to tell from her photos. The rare times when you do find her sitting still, she is probably reading a book, snuggling with an animal, or drawing (she's a very talented artist).
India's infectious smile and her talent for living fully in the moment are just two of the qualities that make her a perfect Naturally Gorgeous model.
We applied India's Beige 4 Satin Matte Foundation with the #25 Foundation Brush, and then brushed Satin Matte Blush in Soft Plum on the apples of her cheeks and blended it outwards with the #17 brush. A little Luminous Shimmer Eyeshadow in Lana, on a #37 brush went on from her crease to her brows, with a heavier application of Black Orchid on a #36 brush from crease to lashes. Her eyes were lined with a Satin Matte Eyeliner in Pewter, applied with a damp #33 brush. A touch of Satin Matte Eyeshadow in Raven filled in her brows, and the look was completed with Organic Nourishing Lipbalm in Rhubarb.
For west coast girls like those of us at Alima, The Hamptons seem so glamorous. It conjures up images of biking past white, sand beaches with pounding surf on one side and sun-bleached homes with green lawns on the other side. We can imagine popping in to the mom & pop grocery store only to find we’re rubbing elbows with a celebrity. Clam bakes, shared summer rentals and all-night bonfire parties sound so exotic to those of us who call our beaches “the coast.”
The Hamptons summer eyeshadow collection is an homage to how we imagine it would be to spend a relaxing summer in the east. We would want a bit of glitz, to catch the daytime sun, or the nighttime firelight, but nothing over the top. We would want a collection of colors that went well together in a variety of ways so we could survive for six or eight weeks with a mere four eyeshadows.
So here it is, our perfect summer eyeshadow collection for our dream trip to The Hamptons:
Shelter Island is the color of sun-warmed sand, or dried beach grass. With a healthy dose of shimmer, it is a perfect base for a complicated look, or great on its own for a subtle wash of color.
Southampton is the flawless blue of the surf or the summer sky. The subtle shimmer makes it a perfect accent color, but it can carry your entire look when you want to be adventurous.
Montauk is the gorgeous bronze of the perfect tan (faux, of course!) with the added glamour of golden shimmer. It is a perfect partner for Shelter Island, used on the lid or in the crease.
Amagansett is a deep, charcoal brown, like a weathered wood building or a piece of dark driftwood, but with some silver sparkle added for good measure. Wear it as a contour or damp as a liner when you want to be dramatic; or smudged dry along the lash line for a simple look.
Apply Shelter Island from lashes to brows with the fluffy #37 Brush. Lightly contour the crease with a touch of Montauk on the #36 Pointed Crease Brush. Smudge a bit of Amagansett along the lash line with a dry #31 Fine Liner Brush. Apply Mauna Loa Bronzer, and then add a touch of Raspberry Satin Matte Blush to the apples of the cheeks. Finish the look with Organic Nourishing Lipbalm in Sweet Pea.
Apply Shelter Island from crease to brows with the #37 Brush. Using the #39 Large Shadow Brush, place Southampton on the lid, from lashes to crease. Contour the crease with Montauk on the #36 Brush. Complete the eye with Amagansett on a damp #31 Brush. Add Sahara Luminous Shimmer Blush to the cheeks, then slick on some Organic Nourishing Lipbalm in Mango.
We love this fresh and romantic look that Elizabeth Olsen wore so effortlessly at this year’s Independent Spirit Awards. Peachy pink cheeks and rose golden eyes are simple and perfect for a spring evening out on the town.
01. Freja Luminous Shimmer Blush 02. Silk Pearluster Eyeshadow 03. Martinique Luminous Shimmer Eyeshadow 04. Onyx Satin Matte Eyeliner 05. Alima Pure Brushes 06. Keiko Satin Finishing Powder 07. Sweet Pea Organic Nourishing Lip Balm
Less is more, especially with the Olsens' killer skin! With the #25 Foundation Brush apply one layer of Freja to the apples of the cheeks, best done with the oh-so-fabulous and foolproof #23 Kitten brush.
For the eyes, apply a wash of Silk Pearluster Eyeshadow from lash to brow with the #39 Large Shadow Brush. Next, sweep Martinique Luminious Shimmer Eyeshadow into the crease and upper and lower lash lines to create shadow and depth. For more intensity, line the eyes with Onyx Satin Matte Eyeliner with the #33 Angle Brush.
Finally, quench your lips and enhance their natural color with Organic Nourishing Lip Balm in the shade Sweet Pea.
