What inspired you to start your business?
I love beauty products, obviously being a makeup artist sort of naturally lends itself to trying every product on the market. But three years ago I personally had a bad reaction to some dermatologist recommended products. I never thought my skin was particularly sensitive so I looked into the ingredients and after I researched some of them I had a very eye opening moment. I stumbled onto the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics website and was hooked. I now use only organic or as natural as possible skin care/makeup/body lotions and shampoos.
It is shocking how little the cosmetics industry is regulated and how much garbage goes into commercial beauty products. But what's more shocking is how many women are uninformed about what they're putting on their bodies.
How do you define beauty?
I define beauty as simplicity. I like simple, clean, glowing skin. A touch of shimmer here or there, a pretty pink lip and cheek.
What do people love about your boutique?
I think people appreciate the uncluttered atmosphere and the simple lines. I tried to design a space that was open and clean.
What are the other 'don't miss' gems in your neighborhood?
Emma's Brick Oven Pizza across the street - they claim to use NYC water so the pizza is pretty amazing.
