Warm up to fall with beautiful shadow looks

There must be a rainbow somewhere outside right now–it’s raining, but the sun is glaringly bright off of the wet pavement. We’re easing into the Portland rainy season. As the seasons change, maybe it’s time to change up your eyeshadow routine just a bit–add a little drama to go with the sweaters and scarves.

Smoky eyes are never out of style, but as the weather turns colder it becomes easier to pull off the romantic, grey smoky eye look.  Wear our sparkly Meringue Luminous Shimmer shadow as a highlight, Zen Pearluster on the lid, and Ava Luminous Shimmer in the crease and outer corner.  Line upper and lower lash lines with Onyx Satin Matte Eyeliner, using a damp brush.  For additional drama, you can put Ava on the lid, smudged along the lash line. The Best Natural Skincare Ever

pair of white trainers isolated on white

We get lots of queries for skincare recommendations, and there are some fantastic ones out there (Talulah, for example), but one of my favorites doesn’t come in a jar.

Last year after my surgery, I faced the humbling process of getting back into shape. Getting onto the elliptical trainer was the first embarrasment. Of course no one was paying much attention to me, but after 10 minutes I was ready to curl up on the sofa with a good book and a cup of tea. Yoga class? Wow. Vinyassa yoga meant a push-up and downward dog as a ‘rest’ between poses. Seriously. There’s more »

Rosacea and Natural Skincare

The Blushing Season

Less than a month of summer exists in Oregon, and as Fall nears, I find myself contemplating the pleasures of cooler weather.  I’m one of those rare birds that luxuriate in rain, wind and snow; I look forward to bundling up in a heavy coat and fuzzy gloves to make a quick trip to the grocery store. The only problem is, with the cold weather comes indoor heating; something that my Rosacea skin detests. Indoor heating can cause my skin to flush bright, stinging red, for many hours. The Problem with Natural Mascara

Alima receives many interesting, supportive, and informative questions and comments each day. We love hearing from you and want to take this opportunity to thank you for keeping in touch with us and for sharing your cosmetic preferences and needs. Your feedback is incredibly inspiring and absolutely factors into the products Alima designs and the decisions we make.

One question we receive frequently is: “why doesn’t Alima offer a mascara?” It appears that many are keen for the inclusion of a natural mascara into Alima’s line. The idea of a natural mascara is wonderful on the surface, but more complicated upon closer inspection. In fact, mascara (as a “damp” product) requires preservatives in order to be safe for use around the eye area. Without such preservatives, mascara runs the risk of causing eye infections—not a good thing! There’s more »

Alima Hugs Some Trees

Alima believes in “leaving a light footprint” in all of our actions both in business and in our personal lives. We recycle. We use pure and natural ingredients in our products and eco-friendly packing materials. We limit our carbon emissions to reduce our impact on global warming. And we are aware that more can always be done.

Perhaps this is why we like Feng Shui, which cultivates the flow of harmonious energy through use of solar light, running water, free air ventilation, growing plants, and the presence of animals. “Feng Shui” literally means: “wind water.” Beauty originates in nature and all attempts to enhance beauty stem back to nature.
